Army troops serving Security Forces Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) with the patronage received from Hemas Pvt Ltd volunteered to build two pre-schools in areas, close to the Mullaittivu town centre.
Mr Abbas Yusuf Ali and Mrs Shiromi Masakorale of Hemas Pvt Ltd at the invitation of Colonel W.A.S.S Wanasinghe, Colonel General Staff at 59 Division, arrived in Mullaittivu for a visit in May and saw for themselves the plight of pre-schools in the area, being used by kids.
Both visitors promptly responded and offered financial assistance to build two completely new pre-school buildings in Mullaittivu area and laid the cornerstones for construction.
A few days ago, one of those new pre-schools ‘Piyawara’, set up at Vilawatta, Mullaittivu, was opened during a simple ceremony, attended by Mr Abbas Yusuf Ali, Managing Director, Hemas Pvt Ltd, the main sponsor of the project.
Brigadier G.R.H. Dias, General Officer Commanding, 59 Division, representatives of Hemas Pvt Ltd, Colonel W.A.S.S Wanasinghe, Colonel General Staff at 59 Division, senior officers and a gathering of local civilians took part in the opening ceremony.
Impressed with the Army’s contribution, one 80-year old woman, attending the occasion, publicly admitted that during the whole of her life span, she had never ever seen Army personnel working so intimately with poverty-stricken people of that area.
