President Rajapaksa Inaugurates War Hero Month; First War Hero Flag Pinned

Commencing the formal War Heroes’ Commemoration (Ranaviru) month, the symbolic Ranaviru flag was presented to HE, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Monday (30) morning during a brief ceremony at Temple Trees.    

Mrs. Padma Wettewa, Chairperson Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) pinned the first flag and formally commenced the month-long commemorative ceremonies, comprised of launch of many welfare programmes at provincial levels, wreath-laying at Ranaviru Monument at Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte, award of scholarships to children of Ranaviru families, etc.

The apex of the ceremonies is the Victory Day parade, scheduled in Colombo in May.
 
Today’s morning ceremony at Temple Trees also coincided with the ceremonial launch of the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) website. President Rajapaksa as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces launched the inauguration of the website at the invitation of Mrs Wettewa. Provincial level commemorative ceremonies follow with elaborate arrangements in each district.

Governors, Ministers, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence & Urban Development, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Mr. Laxman Hulugalle, Director General for Media Centre for National Security, Administrators and a large gathering invitees witnessed the formal release of the Ranaviru stamp and the RSA website.
