President Makes His First Official Visit to the Defence Ministry


HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, made his maiden official visit to the Ministry of Defence Wednesday (28) afternoon with a view to meeting the officials at the Ministry of Defence.

He was warmly received by Hon Minister of State for Defence Mr Ruwan Wijewardene on arrival at the premises in the company of Mr Uthpala Basnayake, Secretary Defence, Assistant Secretaries, tri-service Commanders, Heads of departments and senior officials.

In his brief address to the staff at the premises, President Maithripala Sirisena expressed his full confidence in each and every one serving the Ministry and assured that all necessary measures would be enforced to maintain national security interests with the support of every one, remedying and rectifying minor shortcomings in the system.

He also emphasized the importance of organizing a proper mechanism to face challenges at national and international levels after taking stock of realities in different spheres.

President Sirisena after talking to all officials sat together with the Minister of State for Defence, Secretary Defence, Assistant Secretaries and tri-service Commanders for a brief meeting in order to receive a comprehensive evaluation of the status quo in relation to security matters.
