President Gives Away 27 More Houses in 'Api Wenuwen Api' Fund

27 more houses, built from the proceeds collected in the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ welfare fund at Ministry of Defence were formally released to the ownership of War Heroes Sunday (5) morning in Thorayaya, Kurunegala.

His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave away the title deeds and keys of those houses to 22 Army families and 5 Navy families whose spouses were affected in the fight against terrorism.

President Rajapaksa participating in the simple ceremony as the chief guest symbolically handed over the keys of the first house to the spouse and child of the Navy Petty Officer Thennakoon who sacrificed his life for the sake of the country during the humanitarian operations.

Later on, President Rajapaksa delivered keys of 26 more houses built in various other locations in the Kurunegala District to Sri Lanka Army and Navy War Heroes and spouses of Navy and Army families.  Sri Lanka Navy provided manpower to complete those houses.

Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Mr. Luxman Hulugalle, who also has lent his weight for the successful completion of the project made the welcome speech on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and Secretary of Defence.

The keynote address was delivered by Governor for North Central Province Mr Tissa Balalla. A War Hero recipient raised the vote of thanks on the occasion.

Secretary to HE the President, Mr Lalith Weeratunge Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Commander of the Navy graced the occasion, accompanied by their spouses.

Several Ministers, senior military officers, and family members of late War Heroes, differently-able War Heroes and a large gathering of civilians were also present to witness the distribution of those houses.
