With the objective of finding about the well-being and post-requirements of rehabilitated and remobilized men and women in 543 Brigade area in Mannar, a special interactive meeting was conducted recently, following arrangements made by 25 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops serving the area where the highest number of rehabilitated families reside.
Brigadier M.A.M. Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division who headed this meeting gave a patient hearing to those rehabilitated and resettled men and women and identified some of their prioritized needs. During the sessions, one rehabilitated woman, identified as Nagendran Vimaladevi, made an earnest appeal for a dwelling place for herself since she remains homeless.
Accordingly, following sustained discussions that the 25 Gemunu Watch Commanding Officer, has had with the Chief Priest and trustees at Murugan Kovil at the request of the general public, the Army was able to secure a land plot of about 75 x 75 ft in a rear-end of the Kovil premises for construction of a dwelling place to this rehabilitated woman.
Army troops with the support of temple trustees and villagers expect to complete the construction of a house for this needy woman shortly.
During this special post-rehabilitation inquiry, all rehabilitated men and women who met senior Army officers were treated to a hearty lunch at the same venue before the end of the interactive session.
