Ministry of Defence organized ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission III, the world’s one and only reality show of the Armed Forces, showcasing inalienable musical talents of the War Heroes, is to inaugurate its TV transmission on 3rd November 2012 at 9.00 p.m. via the Jathika Rupavahini (national channel) with a live telecast from Vavuniya.
A media briefing at Hotel Ramada Thursday (1) morning, attended by a gathering of organizers, tri-service commanders and programme hosts, announced that the ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission III (RRS), is to be comprised of final contenders in Army, Navy and Air Force who had served their respective services for more than three years before the culmination of the war in May 2009. Over 7500 contenders are to display their musical prowess and aesthetic talents during the audition process that would go on for more than eight months across island-wide tri-service field formations. The finale is to be staged in June, next year after the final five contenders are selected by a special panel of judges and through public SMS responses.
Previous ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission I & II Reality Shows that drew a mammoth public response, supplemented with a record 4 million SMS senders, saw their birth as a novel concept of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development a few years ago, and earned a name as the most watched among millions of music-lovers across the country.
Mr Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS), one of the main organizers of the project on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, welcoming the guests to the Media briefing, outlined the success behind previous shows and how the whole concept came into being as a tribute to the commitment of tri-service War Heroes of our times.
Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal H.D. Abeywickrama, Chairman, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Mr Mohan Samaranayake, Mrs Amali Nanayakkara, Representative of Dialog, the main sponsor of the programme, Mr Jackson Anthony, Creative Designer of the Programme and a few distinguished invitees, attended the occasion.
‘This new stage was opened to the servicemen since of recent times because many servicemen did not have any chance of displaying their hidden artistic talents because of their commitments to the humanitarian operations at that point of time. With the first ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission I, the popular programme hit the market and grabbed the popularity in a speedy manner. As the leading facilitator of the telephone networks, Dialog helped this spectacle make a reality right throughout, Mr Hulugalle said.
The winner in ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission III will receive a house, worth Rs 17 million and the four runners-up will receive money and cars as gifts.
Four public Ranaviru Real Star live shows will take place at Vavuniya (Nov 3), Kurunegala (Nov 10), Embilipitiya (Nov 17) and another one on Nov 24 at Katunayake, with a view to taking the programme to ground level.
The popular actor, Saranga Disasekara who is also the compere to the Reality Show conducted the programme at Hotel Ramada. ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission II winner, Ayomi Perera of the Army added rhythmic beats and entertained the attendees during the Media briefing.
