Overseas Sri Lankans Help Army Set Up New IT Centre

Sri Lankans based in New Zealand assisted the 222 Brigade troops in Kantale under 22 Division to set up a much-needed Computer Resource Centre for students at Saliyapura Vidyalaya, a school in multi - ethnic environment.

In response to a request made by Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, Commander, 222 Brigade and the Acting General Officer Commanding for 22 Division, Trincomalee, one Mr Waruna Padmasiri and his friends living in New Zealand had offered their sponsorship for establishment of the new IT Resource Centre.

The move seen as a gesture that would promote understanding and ethnic harmony received the support of the staff at this school and educational authorities. The Army facilitated the transport and establishment of the centre in consultation with school authorities.

The ceremonial opening of the school’s new IT Resource Centre took place on Monday (27) with the participation of the donor, Mr Waruna Padmasiri, Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, Mr Upali Vijayalath, Zonal Education Director, Kantale, Mr Lansakkara, Principal, Saliyapura Vidyalaya, Lieutenant Colonel H.S Karunatillake, 222 Brigade Civil Affairs Officer, several well-wishers and parents in the school.
