Outgoing East Commander Honoured at SFHQ-East Premises

The outgoing Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Chinthaka Gamage on Sunday (24) after an illustrious military career spanning more than 34 years formally relinquished the office as the 20th Commander Security Forces - East amidst traditional military formalities at the SFHQ-East premises at Welikanda.

Formalities included a Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander on arrival at the venue plus a Guard of Honour accorded to him by the troops of 15 Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry in keeping with military traditions.

After planting a sapling at the Headquarters premises, the outgoing SF-E Commander addressed the troops where he thanked everyone for the dedication and cooperation extended to achieve desired results in the Eastern Theatre as a cohesive military force. Further, he insisted preserving the image of the Army through maintenance of highest standards of discipline at all levels and the need to function in all aspects, most efficiently and effectively.

In keeping with traditions, Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Upali Gunasekera, together with Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Shirantha Dissanayake presented a memento to the SF-E Commander in appreciation of his services to the SFHQ-E.

Prior to the departure from the SFHQ-E in Welikanda, Major General Chinthaka Gamage made courtesy visits to under command Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area -East during 17-23 January. During the visits, Major General Chinthaka Gamage was warmly welcomed by all the General Officers Commanding and the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East. He addressed the troops and appreciated their services rendered by all ranks during his office and motivated them to continue to offer their services effectively in future as well.
