One more valiant soldier bids adieu after LTTE sniper attack

Lance Corporal H. K. A HENDENIYA (S/306406) of Seventh Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry of No. 22, YAMAMMULLA, AKURAMBODA, MATALE, was the latest valiant soldier to die in an LTTE sniper attack on Tuesday (16) morning while on duty at the LTTE Army post at KESELWATTE in MUTUR.

LTTE sniper men keeping a line of civilians, ahead of them as a human shield, hit the soldier on duty at the sentry point while taking cover inside the border area in KESELWATTE, MUTUR.

After his studies up to G.C.E.(O/L) at Matale Akuramboda Central College, he joined the Sri Lanka Army on 08 October 1993 as a private and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal.

On completion of his basic military training in the Army, he served in various operations in war-affected areas as a brave soldier, including Sathjaya III- Killinochchi and the Ranagosa III- Periyamadu, to cite a few main operations.

During his career, Lance Corporal Hendeniya sharpened his military knowledge in the Army by following the Air Mobile Course, Battalion Course and Special Operational Platoon Course.

Lance Corporal H.K.A. HEENDENIYA was married to Mrs. P.G.Raveendra Karunarathne of Matale. His military funeral was to be conducted in Matale shortly.
