The final precursor arrangements of the annual ‘Colours Night - 2014’ to be held this evening (12) at the BMICH got underway for the 3rd day with the opening of the Photo Exhibition of Army Sports and the award of another segment of appreciative plaques to Army veterans in sports on Thursday (12) morning at the BMICH banquet hall.
General Sri Lal Weerasooriya, former Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest on Thursday (12) opened the Photo Exhibition and joined the awarding ceremony in the company of senior officers.
Prof Arjuna Silva, guest speaker for the day delivered a special lecture on importance of sports and the Army’s effective contribution to the field of sports in the country. Award of plaques to 162 veterans of the Army (both male and female) took place afterwards in the presence of a large gathering of invitees and senior officers.
Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff welcomed the day’s Chief Guest on arrival.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. In addition to the Chief Guest, Prof Arjuna Silva, Director General Sports, Major General R. Rathnasingham, Chief Organizer of the Photo Exhibition, Major General Renuka Udawatte and Director Sports, Brigadier Athula Galagamage also joined the tradition of lighting the lamp.
Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, taking a respite from his busy schedule, attended the occasion for a few minutes.
