One More New House Under 'Api Wenuwen Api' MoD Project Gifted to Mission II 'Ranaviru Real Star'

One of the popular stars of the mega ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ Mission II, Lance Corporal J.M.S Jagath Kumara of Thalakolawewa, Rasanayakepura, Nikaweratiya during a special ceremony, dignified by the presence of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, received a new house on Monday (4) under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project.

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development took the initiative in this direction with the objective of raising living standards of ‘Ranaviru Real Stars’ who are blessed with outstanding singing talents. The recipient of the house was the sixth in the Mission II programme before he stepped down.  

Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest on the occasion at the invitation of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon and warmed the new house after lighting the traditional oil lamp, amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha and traditional rites and rituals.

The Chief Guest ceremonially delivered the keys of the new house to the ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ and his family at the auspicious minute in the company of Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa.

The opening ceremony, coloured by a host of fellow-Army, Navy and Air Force singing stars in the ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ programmes I and II was attended by a gathering of distinguished invitees, including Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Commander of the Navy and his spouse, Commander of the Air Force and his spouse, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch,   Mr Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General, Media Centre for National Security, several senior tri-service officers, other ranks and villagers.

The house constructed with the generous labour offered by Sri Lanka Navy troops cost Rs 5 million according to Mr Lakshman Hulugalle, Chief Coordinator of the ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ programme. Mr Hulugalle raised the welcome address on behalf of the organizers.

Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who accidentally observed the residential home of the ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ while the Mission II programme was on, recommended the construction of a new house to the singer through ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ funds of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.

The subsequent musical fiesta at the location, attended by Mission I and II top rank winners and veteran artistes, like Edward Jayakody, Jackson Anthony, Yasodha Wimaladharma, and Samantha Perera, attracted a huge gathering of villagers from Nikaweratiya area who had the rare chance of interacting closely with the Secretary Defence during the musical entertainment.

Adding special significance to the occasion, the seven-year old daughter of the house recipient too joined others to entertain the gathering by renting the air with rhythmic vocal cords.
