One More New Farm to Start Egg Production & Different Related Projects

Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock in the Army expanding its role further established one more farm for layer egg production, turmeric cultivation and tomato sauce manufacturing at Balalla, Mahawa area on Thursday (19), giving one more boost to the production of own food varieties to the organization.

The new farm of 15 acres in extent in this Army-owned land is expected to have 25,000 layer chickens which could produce the egg requirement of the troops serving under the Security Forces - West. Major General Indrajith Kandanarachchi, Director General, Army Agriculture and Livestock on Thursday (19) formally inaugurated the preliminary preparations in the new farm and commenced its operations with 100,000 layer chickens.

This farm, expected to produce the daily ration requirement of the Army in the long run and release excess stocks for sale at Army welfare shops at nominal price. With the blessings of the Commander of the Army, the same farm, managed by 5 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) troops is to begin a new turmeric project and a factory to produce tomato sauce by purchasing excess harvests of local tomato farmers around the area while giving the best opportunities for their surplus harvest.
