One More Disable SLAC War Hero Gifted With an SVAB Built New House

The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), whole-heartedly dedicated for construction of houses for disable War Heroes with the support of various donors and Regimental Seva Vanitha Units, completed one more project by building another new house to a disable Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (8 SLAC) War Hero in Loggaloya-Madaoya, Mapakandawewa, Mahiyanganaya area on Wednesday (25).

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, who is also the Chairperson of SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit, together with senior SVAB members ceremonially opened the new house, valued at Rs. 1 million and handed over the keys to the Trooper J.M.D Deeparatne of 8 SLAC amidst ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting of the Maha Sangha.

The need for a new house for this disable War Hero was brought to the attention of Mrs Jayasuriya by fellow-soldiers since he remains confined to a wheelchair following paralysis below the neck.

Mrs Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest after opening the new house gave away special gifts to the house recipient and chatted with him and his family members. Two daughters of the War Hero welcomed the Chief Guest on arrival at the venue.

Mrs Jayasuriya after unveiling a plaque, cut a ribbon and handed over the main door keys to the recipient as the auspicious moment struck. SVAB senior members, next of kin of the disable War Hero and a gathering of well-wishers attended the occasion.

The recipient who sustained injuries during humanitarian operations in April 2008 is a father of two daughters, both still below the age of 9 years.

Fellow-soldiers and engineers in the Army have donated labour for construction of the entire house.
