Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) - established new Army Service Centre and two new pre-cast buildings for Other Ranks at 552 Brigade area in Aiyakachchi, Jaffna were opened on Tuesday (12).
Establishment of own Service Centres in the Army came about as a proposal of the Commander of the Army who maintained that our own Service Centres would help reduce cost of servicing to a considerable level. Accordingly, Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (DEME) took steps to establish Service Centers at Mannar, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Panagoda, Kosgama and several other places, facilitating speedy and economical repairs to the fleet of Army vehicles.
Opening of the Jaffna Service Centre by Major General M Hathurusinghe, Security Force Commander - Jaffna took place after the Chief Gust was greeted to a Guard Turnout on arrival at the Service Centre premises. The Chief Guest gave a symbolic memory to the occasion by planting a tree sapling in the venue after opening of the Service Centre.
Minutes after, the Chief Guest opened two new pre-cast buildings put up for the use of other ranks in the 552 Brigade Headquarters compound.
