Officers under Training at SLMA Educated on Human Rights

A two-day workshop on ‘Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL)’ got underway at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy following arrangements, made by the Directorate of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (HRIHL) in the Army in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) during 23 - 24 February.

Brigadier Keerthi Kottewatta, Director, HRIHL together with Brigadier (Retd) Jacques Lemay, Regional Armed & Security Forces Delegate of the ICRC, Mr Channa Jayawardena and Ms Claudia of the ICRC spearheaded the sessions that went on for two days.

All resource personnel by sharing their expertise and experiences in diversified areas related to International Humanitarian Law & its Historical Evolution, International Law System, Introduction to IHL & IHL Universal Code, Basic Terminology and Definitions, Means & Methods of Warfare, Targeting in Armed Conflict, Introduction to IHRL & IHL vs IHRL, IHRL Basic Principles, Law Enforcement Powers, IHL & Peace Keeping Operations, IHL in Post Conflict, Command Responsibility, etc conducted those lectures.

The inaugural ceremony on Tuesday (23) was graced by the Commandant, Major General Krishantha Gnanaratne as the Chief Guest. Deputy Commandant, Senior Officers, Officers and all Officer Cadets. The workshop resulted in expanding the existing knowledge of the participants and imparted much-needed inputs to live up to emerging trends of the present world order.
