More than 80 marathon runners representing Mannar, Jaffna, Mullaittivu, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya Districts with the aim of seeking entry into this year’s National Sports Festival - 2013, took part in a ‘Cross-Country Run’ on 26th January after the gathered in front of the Mannar District Secretary’s office.
Physical Training Instructors of the 54 Division, District Sports Instructors, Police and School Physical Training Instructors and staff of the Mannar District Secretariat supported the conduct of this ‘Cross-Country Run’ with the participation of a gathering of sportsmen and women and civilians in the area.
Women’s event was led by Mr M.M Siyan, Mannar Zonal Director of Education and the Men’s event got underway with the Civil Affairs Office of the 54 Division, giving the lead.
Award of trophies and certificates to the winners followed afterwards. Director Sports for the Northern Province and other invitees distributed those awards at the end of the day’s event.
