Major General Chanaka Mettananda assumed duties as the 15th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) amid religious blessings at the Regimental Centre at Panagoda on Thursday (1).
The newly-appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Colonel Sasanka Perera, Centre Commandant and saluted in a Guard Turnout and a parade. Afterwards, offering of floral tributes to the memory of Regimental War Heroes’ took place at the monument. Later, Major General Chanaka Mettananda signed a formal document and marked the assumption of his new office amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha in the presence of council members, Senior Officers and Regimental Staff at the RHQ SLAGSC.
As a formality, the new Colonel Commandant addressed all ranks before he joined an all-rank tea arrangement.
Major General Chanaka Mettananda was the Director of Budget and Finance before his new appointment. He succeeded Brigadier Palitha Hewawasam who retired from the Army recently.
