Major General Sumedha Perera, the newly-appointed Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C), assumed office at SFHQ-C in Diyatalawa on Wednesday (3) during a brief ceremony, coloured with military formalities and religious observances.
In accordance with military traditions, Major General Sumedha Perera, reviewed the Guard Turnout on arrival and received the salute of the Guard of Honour at the Rondaw grounds, presented by the troops of the SFHQ-C.
After performing religious observances, Major General Sumedha Perera, took over duties at the auspicious minute and placed his signature in a formal document, signifying the acceptance of the appointment. Planting of a tree sapling by the new Commander in the SFHQ-C premises also marked the occasion.
All General Officers Commanding (GOCs) of the 11 and 12 Divisions, Brigade Commanders of the 111,112,121,122 Brigades, commanding officers , officers as well as the other ranks of the SFHQ- C were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Major General Sumedha Perera afterwards addressed the troops and emphasized the need to further improve welfare infrastructure and living standards of all those serving the SFHQ-C and assured that all possible steps would be taken in that direction in the future.
An all rank tea table culminated the day’s proceedings.
