New SF-West Commander, Major General Deepal Pussella Begins Duties

Major General Deepal Pussella on Wednesday (4) assumed office as the 13th Commander of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) during a simple ceremony.

The newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces - West was greeted in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour parade by Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops soon after his arrival at the premises in accordance with military traditions.

Amidst religious observances, he placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office.

Thereafter, the newly-appointed West Commander sat for a group photograph and subsequently planted a sapling in front of the main office complex to mark the assumption of duties.

A few minutes later, staff officers at the SFHQ-West made brief presentations on their roles and duties and extended their best wishes to the new Commander.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, Major General Deepal Pussella afterwards addressed the troops and outlined the importance of working as a team to enhance the reputation of the Sri Lanka Army. Later on, an All Rank lunch brought the day’s arrangements to culmination.

General Officers’ Commanding of 61 and 14 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders of under Command Brigades, Directors and Centre Commandants of the relevant Headquarters located inside the Army cantonment at Panagoda, Commanding Officers of affiliated battalions, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the SFHQ-West participated at the ceremony.

He succeeded Major General Kithsiri Liyanage who is about to retire after more than 34 years of exemplary service.
