New Mullaittivu Commander Takes Office

Major General Upali Rajapaksha, Colonel of the Regiment of the Army’s Commando Regiment (CR) assumed duties as the 14th Commander of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) on Monday (22).

The newly-appointed Commander was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout presented by the troops of the 12 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (12 SLLI) on arrival. Seconds after, the stage was set to award the highest salute, Guard of Honour to him in the parade ground where 23 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (23 SLLI) troops saluted him.

Afterwards, Major General Upali Rajapaksha placed his signature in the first official document to mark his assumption of new office, amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ in the presence of a few Senior Officers. Later on, he was invited to plant a sapling as a gesture of memory.

An All Rank tea afterwards and the formal address to the Officers and other ranks culminated the day’s proceedings, Commander, FMA-MLT, Officers of the SFHQ-MLT, General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and other ranks of the SFHQ-MLT witnessed the parade and the ceremony.

Major General Upali Rajapaksha, prior to this new appointment served as the GOC, 68 Division.
