An initiative taken recently by troops in 61 Division, Vavuniya bore fruits and enabled them to distribute a stock of school books, shoes, bags, educational accessories and other items among school children at Periyathampanai School.
Hon. Dr Sudarshani Fernandopulle (MP) from her organization has spent Rs. 150,000/= for purchase of those items in response to an invitation made by Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division.
The simple ceremony for distribution of those gifts among students took place under the aegis of Mrs Fernandopulle and Brigadier Kariyakarawana. 102 students received those gift parcels from the guests during the simple ceremony at Periyathamapanai School.
Meanwhile, following financial support given by Mr Thilak Meepage, Managing Director, Timee Electricals (Pvt) Ltd at Nugegoda, the 61 Division gave away a stock of school stationery and other accessories to students at Government’s Tamil Medium Mixed School in Miullikulam, Vavuniya. 613 Brigade Commander and senior officers attended the distribution ceremony.
Head of the school, students, teachers and parents took part in the ceremony.
