In Mullattivu, Commander Speaks to Troops & Sets out His Future Vision

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, making his first formal visit to the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) after he took on the mantle of office in the Army spoke to both Officers and Other Ranks on Saturday (19) and set out his vision and the mission for the organization, consequent upon the day’s military honours and other formalities.

At the outset, the Commander on arrival at the HQ was greeted to a Guard Turnout in accordance with the sequence of the day’s proceedings before he was ushered to the parade ground to receive the Guard of Honour, presented in his honour as a gesture of recognition of his visit to the location after Major General Jayantha Seneviratne, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu warmly welcomed the visiting Army Chief.

Joining for another symbolic memory, the Commander afterwards planted a sapling in the SFHQ-MLT premises at the invitation of the Mullaittivu Commander.

His presence there added more memories when he ceremonially warmed the new Gymnasium, erected in the premises by Army personnel themselves. Unveiling a plaque and cutting a ribbon, the day’s Chief Guest went inside the new facility and closely looked at those PT accessories and queried about some of them.

Afterwards, the Commander addressed All Ranks and explained his vision and told them how he would like all Army personnel to reach new heights in their professional career by learning more about new technological advancements being unfolded in the new world which is fast changing. He also assured that he would look after welfare prospects of all Army personnel to the best of his ability and modernize the Army to match with fast changing trends.

During refreshments, the visiting Army Chief mingled with All Ranks and shared a few thoughts with them and inquired into facets of their military career and family particulars, etc. As the day's itinerary came to a close, Mullaittivu Commander appreciated the Commander's visit to his HQ and awarded him a special memento. The move was reciprocated. Before the day's Chief Guest's exit, he left some memories in the SFHQ-MLT Visitors' Book.
