Mullaittivu &;amp; Wanni SF Hqrs Mark President's Birthday &;amp; Assumption of Office


Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) and Security Forces Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) separately conducted anniversary commemorative programmes to mark HE the President’s Birthday and assumption of Presidential office during November 14-15.

Ceremonies at SFHQ-MLT commenced with a week-long Pirith chanting ceremony at Mullaittivu Samudragiri Vihara and culminated on Thursday (15).

On Wednesday (14), a religious procession, preceded by the relic casket and the Pirith Potha toured the area with the participation of troops of 59, 64 and 68 Divisions, attired in full white before the procession with members of the Maha Sangha wended its way into the temple premises for chanting. A Bodhi Pooja, held that evening to invoke blessings on the President, followed an alms giving plus a Sangeeka Daana, the following afternoon to a group of more than 18 Buddhist monks.

To coincide with the commemoration, SFHQ-MLT held separate Christian, Islamic and Hindu religious services at three major places of worship in Mullaittivu during November 11-12. Major General L.B.R. Mark, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, District Secretary for Mullaittivu Mr Wethanayagam and a gathering of Mullaittivu civilians and officers attended those arrangements.

Meanwhile, the SFHQ-W on the directions of its Commander, Major General Boniface Perera organized a tree-planting ceremony to mark the Birthday of HE the President and his assumption of office.

Inaugurating the proposed tree-planting campaign of more than 1500 saplings in the complex on a staggered basis, the Wanni Commander, together with his officers and other ranks planted about 400 tree saplings of mango, cashew, tamarind, jak, margosa, wood apple, teak, arecanut, etc in the SFHQ-W premises on Thursday (15).

Major General Perera and senior officers took part in the inaugural ceremony.
