Mullaittivu Troops Swiftly Respond to Adverse Weather Conditions

Worsening weather conditions in the general areas of Vasanthapuram, Kerenamadhu, Pandaravani, Mutthunayagapuram, Peraru, and Kulamurippu Grama Niladhari division areas prompted 641 Infantry Brigade troops to swiftly move and provide affected people with necessary food and temporary shelter in five disaster relief centers.

641 Infantry Brigade Commander along with all officers and other ranks of the Brigade and the 64 Infantry Division in collaboration with civil organizations and the Police took steps to evacuate them and initially accommodated in those five centres.

The Commander, Security Forces - Mullativu, Major General M.K Jayawardena USP ndc, in an attempt to assess the developments conducted an observation tour and visited those disaster relief centers, located at Mannakandal Primary College and Pandaravanian College on 19 Dec 2023. During this visit, the Commander inquired about the urgent needs of displaced people and instructed accordingly.

Meanwhile, 14 (V) Gemunu Watch troops serving the 592 Infantry Brigade repaired the Thannimurippu tank bund preventing a major disaster in the Othiyamalai Grama Niladhari Division on 20 December 2023. A split on the bund was observed by villagers earlier as water levels were rising after heavy rains.
