Mullaittivu Troops Meet the Commander at Respective Units


Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on Friday (4) made a trip down to the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) intending to address the troops and inquire about requirements of all ranks.

The day’s itinerary began after Major General P.U.S. Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT warmly received the visiting Army Chief on arrival at the Mullaittivu grounds. In accordance with military formalities, Commander reviewed the Guard Turnout at the entrance to the SFHQ-MLT premises and afterwards the Guard of Honour, accorded to him. The visiting Commander received the salute from the SFHQ-MLT troops after reviewing the parade in keeping with military traditions.

Subsequently, the Commander addressed more than 2000 troops at the SFHQ-MLT premises where he underlined the importance of collective commitment for work, best discipline at all levels, maintenance of proper coordination for communication and continuation of excellent dedicated services. Moreover, the Commander pointed out the need to maintain excellent relations with civilians in respective areas and launch projects that could be implemented to promote social harmony, understanding and reconciliation in the region.

Planting of a tree sapling in the SFHQ-MLT premises, a group photograph and an all rank tea party were also included in the day’s programme. In the meantime, the Commander inspected repaired vehicles, furnaces and engines that had been repaired by 6 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) troops at the SFHQ-MLT grounds.

Giving importance and memory to the visit, Major General P.U.S. Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT presented a memento to the visiting Commander of the Army.

As the second leg of the programme, the Commander inspected the 23 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Headquarters to inquire into facilities available. Moreover, the visiting commander inspected their living standard, foods and sanitary facilities. Subsequently, the Commander visited the 682 Brigade to listen to a briefing presented by the Area Commander Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 68 Division.

After that, the Commander visited the 64 Division Headquarters at Oddusudan to address more than 1500 troops who were awaiting to listen to the Commander.

This was the first formal visit of the Commander of the Army to Mullaittivu area after he assumed office in February this year.
