2 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops serving Trincomalee under 221 Brigade, 2 Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) in Welikanda, 8 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) troops at Minneriya and 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops at Serunuwara in the past week conducted a number of social service projects for the benefit of low-income group families in respective areas.
In Serunuwara, the troops distributed drinking water for drought-affected 250 people in Ariyamankerni and Lingapuram villages on August 28.
Similarly, troops gave away 250 dry-ration packets to villagers at Sinhalagama village on Thursday (28) following sponsorship given by Ven Lunugamvehera Wimalananda Thero of Maradana.
Meanwhile, drought-affected people in Kurulubedda village in Welikanda on Friday (29) received 500 drinking water bottles following initiatives of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).
On Wednesday (27) troops cleaned up the surroundings in the Koneshwara school in Trincomalee and took garbage away.
