More Commandos Qualify in Hostage Rescue Missions & Dog Handling

Adding yet another group of Commandos to the pioneering exceptional operational force of the country, the Commando Regiment (CR) Wednesday (7) evening at its Regimental Centre, Ganemulla graduated 56 Commandos in Hostage Rescue and Counter Terrorism Induction Course No-28 and 32 Other Ranks in Advanced War Dog Course No-9 during a brief ceremony, presided by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

After a drive-past Guard Turnout saluted the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the premises, Major General Upali Rajapaksha Colonel of the Regiment of the CR and Commander, Security Forces - Mullaitivu (SF-MLT).

The highly sensitive role as regards Hostage Rescue and Counter Terrorist Operative duties qualified 3 Officers and 53 Other Ranks in the Course while 32 K9 Kennel Handlers in the Advanced War Dog Course No-9 received their insignias during the graduation ceremony from the day’s Chief Guest in the company of the Colonel of the Regiment, CR.

Captain D. K. P. W Jayasekara was awarded as the Best Shot and the Best Student in the Hostage Rescue and Counter Terrorist Course No-28. Corporal H. L Gunasekara was adjudged the Best Dog Handler in the Advanced War Dog Course No-9.

After the awarding, General Shavendra Silva in a brief address to the occasion congratulated the day’s graduates and underlined the importance of their duties for the sake of the country. A separate demonstration that highlighted glimpses of the acquired qualifications in both courses was staged on the same occasion before the day’s attendees.

Course graduates finally sat for a group photo and submitted separate presentations bringing the day’s arrangements to end.
