MIR Salutes its Outgoing Colonel of the Regiment, Welcomes New Colonel of the Regiment


Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) saluted their outgoing Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and welcomed its new Colonel of the Regiment Major General Mano Perera during a series of programmes, conducted at the Regimental Headquarters (RHQ), MIR in Dambulla on Saturday (26) and Sunday (27).

The programmes kicked off on Saturday (26) when the get-together of the MIR Seva Vanitha Unit for eighth got underway at the RHQ MIR.

Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Colonel of the Regiment, MIR and Mrs Dhammika Hathurusinghe, Chairperson, MIR Seva Vanitha Unit graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.


 
This event was conducted as a farewell ceremony to Mrs Dhammika Hathurusinghe, who would relinquish her duties as the Chairperson, MIR Seva Vanitha Unit.

During the event, several donations were also made to the RHQ MIR by the MIR Seva Vanitha Unit.

A donation of Rs 1 million was made for the purchase of musical instruments to the MIR musical band. A three-wheel was also donated for the use of all ranks at the RHQ MIR on the same occasion.

A photo copy machine worth Rs. 200,000/= and several computers were also donated for office use RHQ MIR.

A Guava project was also launched as a fund raising project for the MIR Seva Vanitha Unit.

At the end of the get-together, gift parcels were given to the participants in the get-together.

The main events of the programme kicked off on Sunday (27) with opening of welfare projects at the RHQ MIR.



5 chalets, one each for the Commanding Officers of all MIR Battalions serving elsewhere were declared opened by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Colonel of the Regiment, MIR.



Also, two holiday resorts, namely ‘Thuru Piyasa’ & ‘Haritha Piyasa’ were also opened by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe. These resorts are equipped with 8 rooms and a gymnasium.



Meanwhile, the newly constructed other ranks (OR’s) mess and billets were opened by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, fulfilling a needy requirement of the other ranks at RHQ MIR.



Major General Mano Perera, the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment, MIR also attended the events.

Finally, a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor were presented to the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment by the MIR troops at the Parade Grounds, the following day.

Meanwhile, Major General Mano Perera assumed duties as the new Colonel of the Regiment of MIR on the same day at RHQ MIR.
