The official visit of Major General Sena Waduge, the new Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment to the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre and 2nd Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment took place on Sunday (14) after his taking office as 11th Colonel of the Regiment.
The first half of the day was spent at the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre where he was warmly welcomed by Colonel Anura Abeysinghe, Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Training Centre upon arrival at the entrance and he was invited to appear for a group photograph before he declared open the newly-constructed main gate by unveiling a plaque. After that, he was greeted to a Guard Turnout, followed by a formal briefing presented by the Commandant. A camp visit, all ranks tea and planting of a sapling were included in the day's programme.
The second half of the day was set apart to visit the 2nd Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment camp. The visiting Colonel of the Regiment was presented a drive past Guard Turnout when he arrived there at first. Thereafter, Colonel of the Regiment was cordially invited for planting of a sapling and for a group photograph. As per the programme, Colonel of the Regiment afterwards addressed the troops, together with troops of Mechanized Infantry Training Centre and 2nd Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment.
Finally, Colonel of the Regiment left his compliments in the visitors’ books of both establishments as symbols of memory.
