MILITARY POLICE SURVEILLANCE TEAMS TO MINIMIZE MALPRACTICES, CORRUPTION &;amp; IRREGULARITIES

(Media Communiqué)

Recent deployment of random ‘surveillance team’ of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP), intent on curbing any irregularities, corruption and malpractices and minimizing wastages or abuse if any, taking place in military formations, consequent upon strict directives, given by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army himself, arrested a few soldiers, attempting to sell off a stock of rice and other dry rations of a camp to an outside trader in Gelioya, Gampola after the stock had been transported out on Saturday (19).

Those SLCMP flying squads followed the vehicle carrying those Army dry rations closely and apprehended the suspects while dealing with a private trader in a closeby town for the sale of the stolen stock.

SLCMP members immediately arrested those soldiers with the consignment and they were taken in for questioning, together with the Army vehicle. If those soldiers were found guilty through a Court of Inquiry, appointed, they are to be discharged from the Army with immediate effect, to be in line with the Commander’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy on wrong-doers.

Further investigations are in progress. (Ends)
