Medical Clinic Provides Consultations &;amp; Spectacles

POVERTY-RIDDEN villagers in Kurukkalmadam area, Batticaloa on 23rd January thronged Kalaimagal Vidyalaya under 234 Brigade in the East and got their eyesight checked and received eye spectacles from a philanthropist.  

Following an initiative taken by 234 Brigade troops on the instructions of their Brigade Commander Colonel K.D.C.P.J Thilakarathna, the special medical clinic and the distribution of spectacles took place. After proper eye checking, 200 spectacles were distributed among a total of 685 people who came there to receive medical consultations.

Ten medical officers from hospitals in Kaththankudy, Batticaloa, Kalavanchikudy, Araiyampathi and the medical officer in the 232 Brigade provided dental and medical care consultations to those people who visited the clinic between 8.30 a.m.-5.30 p.m. On the instructions of the pharmacist at Kalavanchikudy hoapital, those visiting the medical clinic were given medicine.

The spectacles had been donated by Mr Damith Fonseka, Director, Care Vision following a request made by 234 Brigade. 18 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops provided lunch, tea and refreshments to all those members of the medical staff and the public who visited the clinic.  

The mobile dental unit for the clinic was provided by Mr A.L.M Hisbulla, Minister of Health in the Eastern Provincial Council. Many visitors to the clinic thanked the troops for their service by way of medical assistance.
