More than 1000 lunch packets were distributed among 285 COVID-19 affected families in Point Pedro GN Division on Wednesday (28) in order to provide relief since their areas remained isolated due to COVID - 19 infection.
The project got underway on the instructions of Major General Jagath Kodituwakku, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna with the support of the 551 Brigade troops who prepared the food packets and delivered them to their doorsteps.
The fishing community, affected largely as they are barred from fishing due to health reasons were among the beneficiaries.
Commander, 551 Brigade and Commanding Officer, 16 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the guidance of Major General M K Jayawardena, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, supervised the preparation and door-step delivery of cooked meals in keeping with health regulations. The event was sponsored by Major General (Retd) Ravi Rathnasingham and well-wishers, resident in affected areas.
