Troops serving under the 54 Division Headquarters in Mannar to coincide with ‘Deepavali’ festival on November 13, carried out a series of activities on and before the day of the festival.
On the ‘Deepavali’ day itself, devotees attending special religious observances at Thirukethiswaram Kovil, Kattai-Adampan Sri Muththumari Amman Kovil and Uppukulam Kovil received more than 1000 packets of milk rice with sweet-meats and refreshments free of charge as a patronage to the conduct of the festival.
Before the festival day, 25 resident children at Kaththankulam Ashirwada Monastery were offered lunch by the 542 Brigade on the instructions of Brigadier A.A Kodippili, Commander 542 Brigade Headquarters.
54 Division troops during the same period conducted a cleaning programme in and around all the Hindu Kovil premises in the Mannar area, prior to the day of the ‘Deepavali’ ceremony.
