LTTE assassinated Corporal takes leave of us

Beloved parents, affectionate wife and true friends of the posthumously promoted LTTE slain Corporal H.K.A. Hendeniya paid their last homage to their son, husband and comrade at Akuramboda general cemetery in Matale.

Corporal H.K.A. Hendeniya from 7 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (7 SLLI) fell prey to an LTTE sniper gun on 16 August 2005 while performing his duties at the Kaddaiparichan in Trincomalee area.

Corporal H.K.A. Hendeniya, born on 7 May 1975 in Matale joined the Sri Lanka Army in October 1993 after completing his studies for General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O/L) at the Akuramboda Maha Vidyalaya.

Initially posted to the 3 Battalion SLLI on successful completion of basic military training at Panagoda SLLI Regimental Centre under 15 Regular Recruit Course, Corporal H.K.A. Hendeniya displayed his bravery with fellow troops in the Operations against terrorists such as Sathjaya III and Ranagossa III. He became further qualified in soldiering after following Air Combat Course and Battalion Collective Course.

In recognition of his services, he was awarded the gallantry medal Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) and other service medals, North East Operational, Purnabhumi and Riviresa campaign Service.

After religious ceremonies at his residence, he was laid to rest amidst a huge gathering of mourners.
