A tree planting drive, to be in line with the 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' project of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of the Defence Staff and Commander of the Army got to a start at Kankesanthurai on Friday (5) on account of the International Day of Free Public Transport.
The programme to plant 100 saplings such as Mee, Bulletwood, Margosa, Kumbuk, Jack, etc was initiated with the blessings of the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera in close coordination with Mr. Nishantha Peiris, Chief Station Master and his staff at Kankesanthurai Railway Station.
Troops of the Forward Maintenance Area (FMA) -North organized this event on the directions of Brigadier Wanditha Mahinkanda Commander, Forward Maintenances Area-North who graced the inaugural occasion as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the Chief Station Master, Kankesanthurai Railway Station. The project continued with the participation of the staff at Thalsevana Army Holiday Resort. More than 100 saplings were planted during the event.
