Initial construction work for erection of the Kilinochchi Vesak pandol began on Friday (18) inside the Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalayam playground.
The Seth Pirith chanted by Maha Sangha blessed the project. Commander, Security Force Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) and senior officers attended the inaugural phese.
It will be open to the public on Vesak day and costs Rs 9 lakhs for the Army. 57 Division and 6 Engineer Service Regiment troops provide labour support for its erection.
The erection being raised for the second time is 33 ft high and 30 ft wide and depicts a Buddhist Jataka story.
