Kilinochchi Students Interact with Counterparts in the South

As part of the community oriented projects being effected by the Army for the welfare of Kilinochchi civilians, the 571 Brigade under the 57 Division recently organized a three-day educational tour for students at Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya.

Those Kilinochchi students, visiting the Colombo International Airport, Sri Lanka Parliament, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, National Museum, National Zoological Gardens, National Film Corporation, Puttalam Saltern and the Galle Face esplanade, had also enjoyed the rare chance of interacting with their counterparts at Maharagama President’s College. Students from Kilinochchi freely moved about and saw for themselves how a school in the South functions and conducts its daily affairs with varieties in the day’s routine.

With the motive of providing entertainment, those South-based students staged a cultural show that included a colourful Perahera, display of up country and low country dancing features, folklore and poetry. Students from Kilinochchi in return showcased some of their cultural talents and added entertainment to the occasion. The same evening, a scouting camp plus a special camp fire session was held by students at President’s College for the amusement of their visiting Kilinochchi brothers and sisters.

The touring group with ten teachers of Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya was able to share views and pleasantries with southern counterparts for the first time in their life.

The move, designed to promote sense of goodwill, understanding and reconciliation was thus supported by the Army bearing cost of the entire project.
