Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) organized ‘Sinhala and Hindu New Year’ celebration with the participation of a large number of civilians, took place at SFHQ-KLN grounds on Tuesday (24).
Major General Crishantha De Silva, Commander, SFHQ-KLN, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Army and Civil organizers.
The day’s event, an attempt to further promote harmony and peaceful co-existence among all communities in Kilinochchi area included a variety of both traditional and modern games and fun-making events such as bun eating, the best laugh, fancy dress competitions, musical chairs, cross country races, slow movement cycling, tug of war, pillow-fighting, marathon races, balancing games, hurdle runs, eye spotting, pot smashing, cadjan-weaving, etc.
A musical entertainment that added Tamil, Hindi and different melodies late into the evening brought fun and amusement to the occasion as all youngsters joined with one another for dancing with rhythmic beats rending the air one by one.
Meanwhile, troops serving the 652 Brigade under 65 Division in Akkarayankulam area had their Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival at Akkarayankulam School grounds with the participation of a large gathering of civilians living in the area.
652 Brigade Commander at the end of the day’s festival distributed gifts among winners in respective games and other events.
