Junior Officer Drowns in Arugam Bay While Under Training

The Army officer, Lieutenant T.A.D Bashitha of Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) met with a tragic death on Tuesday (3) evening while he was bathing in the Arugam Bay seas soon after his day’s training session in the Potential Course Officers Course (PCOC) was over together with others.

The deceased now undergoing PCOC, together with a batch of junior officers as part of their Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) practical session, has drowned suddenly while he was swimming in the sea together with a couple of his course mates.

His fellow course mates however managed to rescue him from water and took him to the Pothuvil Hospital where he succumbed.

Lieutenant Bashitha from Ratnapura area is 26 years age at the time of his unfortunate death.

Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) has immediately begun an investigation after recording statements of the eye-witnesses in addition to the investigations of the Pottuvil Police station.
