Determined to help needy students to uplift their educational standards, 521 Brigade troops of the 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna gifted some 50 stationery packs to fifty well-deserved school students in areas served by 521 Brigade troops after inviting them to the Uduppiddy Girls School on Thursday (13) on the eve of the Thai Pongal festival.
The generous sponsorship for this charity was jointly shared by Mr Sri Krishnamenan, the proprietor of ‘Star Food City’ at Atchchuveli, one Mrs Sugandi, several businessmen, Brigade Commander and all officers of the 521 Brigade, considering the need of those poverty-stricken students.
Under the guidance of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, Brigadier M.M Salwathura, Commander, 521 Brigade as directed by Brigadier Samantha Wickramasena, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division supervised the project closely.
The General Officer Commanding, 52 Division graced the event as the Chief Guest and Mr. Illangovan, Secretary to Ministry of Education and Cultural and Youth Affairs in the Northern Province attended as the Guest of Honour and joined the distribution of those incentives for studies.
Brigadier General Staff of the SFHQ-J and several senior officers of the 52 Division and the 521 Brigade were also present at the time of the distribution.
