Jaffna Troops to Build One More House for Point Pedro Family

Adding a stimulus to the ongoing house construction for deserving civilians in the Jaffna peninsula, Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna on Tuesday (20) laid the foundation-stone for erection of a new house to one Mr Selvarathnam Jayapratha residing in Thunnalai area in Point Pedro.

16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment troops with their engineering and technical skills would provide manpower for the construction of the new house and financial contribution for raw materials has been assured by overseas-based retired Major General Ravi Rathnasingham and his family friends through the coordination of Modera - Mattakkuliya Lions Club.

Amid Hindu religious rites and rituals, the cornerstone for construction of the new house was laid. At the end of the brief inaugural ceremony, the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna awarded a relief dry ration pack to the deserving family and a stock of essential school items for school children in the area, including those in the family.

The guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division, Major General Prasanna Gunarathne and the directions of Brigadier Asela Wikramasinghe, Commander, 551 Brigade, enabled Brigade troops to organize the auspicious inaugural event.

Members of Modera - Mattakkuliya Lions Club, Assistant Divisional Secretary of Karaveddy, Brigade Commanders of 551, 552 and 553 Brigades, Commanding Officers of all Units, Grama Niladhari of the respective area, Army personnel and civilians in the area also participated in the ceremony.
