The Jaffna Vesak festival, ‘Yapa Patunai Daham Amawai’ is to be launched on a grand scale for the first time after eradication of terrorism from the country. A Vesak Zone has been declared covering Jaffna Fort, Duraiappa Stadium and Jaffna library areas and the festival is scheduled to be conducted from 27 - 30 May.
Features in the festival include attractive Vesak Pandals depicting various Jathaka Stories, large Vesak Lanterns, free eating homes (Dansel) and recitation of devotional songs in Tamil language. Large crowds are expected not only from Jaffna but also from the south during the Vesak season. The soldiers, attached to Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna are now busy erecting Vesak decorations in the Jaffna town these days.
