The ‘Jaffna Music Festival 2013’ organized and sponsored by Seva Lanka Foundation, USAID and Royal Norwegian Embassy went on the boards at Jaffna Municipal Grounds for two days, beginning Friday (March 1).
Leading vocalists and artistes from countries, like Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Palestine, Norway and Sri Lanka entertained thousands of Jaffna civilians, including many students throughout both days (March 1 - 2).
During the displays, hundreds of Jaffna students added their talents to the musical show, presenting traditional folk music as well as different other forms of dancing and singing, symbolic of age-old Jaffna culture and northern traditions.
The inauguration of the international music festival took place on Friday (1) morning in the presence of a gathering, including religious leaders of four major denominations, Hon. Governor for Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ms Crete Lochen, Hon. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Mr. Douglas Devananda, Security Force Commander – Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and Chairman of Seva Lanka Foundation Mr. Harsha Kumara Navaratne and foreign diplomats. The programme ended on Saturday midnight with a magnificent firework display.
