Giving their share to the ‘Deyata Sevana’ national tree planting campaign, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) and Mannar-based 54 Division Headquarters on Thursday (15) organized programmes to plant more than 1400 tree saplings in both premises.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-J planted a Mahogany sapling at SFHQ-J premises and inaugurated the drive. SFHQ-J soldiers followed their Commander and planted 600 tree saplings afterwards.
Meanwhile, the same programme, directed by Brigadier M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division included saplings of coconut, margosa, teak, cashew, jak, ebony, pihimbiya and a few other rare varieties. They planted more than 730 saplings at the headquarters premises.
In the meantime several Task Forces, Brigades and Units serving Security Force Headquarters (East), with the blessings of the Security Force Commander East Major General S. A. A. L. Perera, joined the National Tree Planting campaign ‘Deyata Sevana’ on Thursday (15) with planting of tree saplings at various locations.
632 Brigade and 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) held their tree planting ceremonies at respective headquarters while 631 Brigade organized their campaign at two different locations, Nandaur Jumma Mosque and Ramacrisna Muslim School in Karthiew Divisional Secretariat Area. Task Force 3 too held its tree planting ceremony at its headquarters and at St. Johns College, Akkarapattuwa.
