On information received from military intelligence, troops of the 18 Gemunu Watch and 12 Division's intelligence corps troops in the 12 Division of the Security Force HQ - Central, together with Kudaoya Policemen raided two Cannabis (Ganja) cultivation plots in the general area of Balaharuwa in Uvakudaoya on Saturday (23) and destroyed them.
Those illegal cultivations with about 32,000 saplings, had been grown secretly inside jungle areas for sale when the troops were tipped off.
Major General Lanka Amarapala, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division in line with instructions that have been issued by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage Commander of the Army who wanted troops to support the eradication of drugs from the country, instructed his troops to undertake the project with the Police.
