India's External Affairs Minister Salutes Memory of Late IPKF War Heroes

India’s External Affairs Minister Ms Sushma Swaraj, currently in Sri Lanka for review of preparations for the Indian Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Sri Lanka, paid her respect to the memorial of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) at Battaramulla Saturday (7) morning in a solemn ceremony.

The visiting India’s External Affairs Minister upon arrival at the location was welcomed by Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff, Army Headquarters.

Afterwards, as the troops of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps presented honours to the IPKF monument, Ms Swaraj placed a flower wreath and paid her respect to the memory of IPKF Jawans who had laid their lives during the fight against LTTE terrorism in late 1980s.

The brief and solemn ceremony which was the first item on the agenda of the visiting India’s External Affairs Minister, was attended by Mr Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha, Indian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, Captain Prakash Gopalan, Defence Attaché of High Commission of India, Major General Mahinda Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Major General T.N Jayasuriya, Director General Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Major General A.S de Z Wickramaratne, Director General Rehabilitation and a few Directors of the Sri Lanka Army.
