Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna was among the distinguished guests invited to place floral wreaths to the memory of fallen IPKF Jawans in Palaly, Jaffna on account of the 72nd Indian Republic Day on Tuesday (26) .
The Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr. S Balachandran, together with the Jaffna Commander walked to the IPKF War Heroes' monument and paid their respect to their memory as the Last Post was sounded.
A considerable number of War Heroes of the 10th Para Commando Regiment of the Indian Army sacrificed their lives during the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operation, code named, 'Operation Pawan' in Jaffna between year 1987 and 1989.
