The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) at Army Headquarters had the rare honour of welcoming the visiting Indian Army Chief’s spouse, Mrs. Bharti Singh during a series of receptions, hosted at SVAB Headquarters and Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ during Monday (6).
Mrs Bharti Singh, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) at the entrance to the SVAB office complex at Army Headquarters was warmly received by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB with a fragrant bouquet of flowers.
Later on, a multi-media presentation, depicting different humanitarian and welfare projects being carried out by the SVAB across the country for the welfare of War Heroes at present was screened by Mrs. Shirani Weerathunge, Secretary, SVAB, enabling the visiting welfare worker from India to receive a glimpse of the SVAB services.
Mrs Jayasuriya who exchanged pleasantries with the visiting lady during the interaction presented a special memento to Mrs Singh as a token of memory of her visit to the SVAB Headquarters. Mrs Singh reciprocated the move.
As the second leg of the day’s itinerary, Mrs Singh, in the company of her Sri Lanka’s counterpart, Mrs Jayasuriya afterwards paid a visit to the Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ where differently-able soldiers are under rehabilitation. Director, Rehabilitation Brigadier D J I Peramunagamage and Commandant Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ received the visiting Indian delegation on arrival at the venue.
Mrs Singh was later on conducted to look around the centre. She, in the company of Mrs Jayasuriya, SVAB President saw for herself how the vocational training centre and the Prosthetics & Orthotic Wing in the unit operate, taking maximum care of recuperating War Heroes.
During her stopover at Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’, she also witnessed a documentary film, extracted from the recent “Tharu Dilena Reyak” mega musical show, in which talents of differently able War Heroes were staged to the astonishment of the spectators. She also enjoyed distributing gift parcels among the inmates at Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ as the day’s programme was coming to a close.
Before the conclusion of the day’s programme, Director, Rehabilitation Brigadier D J I Peramunagamage on behalf of all the ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ inmates presented a special token of memory to the visiting Indian Army Chief’s spouse and thanked her for the gracious presence at the centre.
