Home of Gajaba Readies RHQ for Forthcoming 'Exercise Shake Hands - 1’

Defence Attaché of the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, Colonel Muhammad Safdar Khan in order to evaluate preparatory arrangements in connection with the scheduled bilateral ‘Exercise Shake Hands - 1’ in March 2021 called at the Gajaba Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) at Saliyapura on Monday (21).

With the Centre Commandant of the Gajaba Regimental Centre, Brigadier Dinesh Udugama, the visiting Defence Attaché had a look at the proposed location of the Exercise.

The exercise is scheduled to occur with the participation of Sri Lanka and Pakistan Army troops, thus further enhancing long standing friendly ties between two countries. The proposed “Training Enclave” where officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army could be accommodated inside the Regimental Centre was also visited around the same time, followed by a field visit to Nikawewa Air Mobile Training School, where the main exercises is scheduled to be held in March.

On Tuesday (22) a WEBINAR Conference was held at the conference hall in Gajaba Regimental Centre with the participation of Steering Committee President Major General Vikum Liyange, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, Brigadier Srinath Ariyasinghe, Director General Infantry, Brigadier Sanjeewa Fernando, Commandant, IPSOTSL, Brigadier Nishantha Jayasundara, Commander, 533 Brigade, Brigadier Dinesh Udugama, Centre Commandant, Colonel Sadar Khan, Defence Attaché of Pakistan, Brigadier G.D Sooriyabandara, Commander, 583 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Jitendra Gunawardhana, Commanding Officer, 12 Gajaba Regiment, Major Sameera Ambagahaduwa, Commanding Officer, 3 Gajaba Regiment and Senior Officers of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

During the WEBINAR, views were exchanged between the members of both countries on the successful conduct of this bilateral Exercise Ex-Shake Hands - 1.
