Helpless Civilian in Ethawetunuwewa Gets New House with Army Help & Buddhist Assn's Sponsorship

Sponsorship provided by the Sadahamsuwa Buddhist Association at Vavuniya Hospital, troops of the 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the guidance of Major General Upali Gunasekara - General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Brigadier Keerthi Perakum, Commander - 621 Brigade took the initiative of building a new house for a needy family in the area to coincide with the 72nd Army Anniversary.

Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni expressed his appreciation for the gesture as the construction constitutes another community welfare project.

The project was brought to completion by the troops under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jinesh Liyanagama before it was ceremonially vested in the beneficiary, Mr C.R Priyadarshana, No 04 A, Ethawetunuwewa, Welioya on the Army Day (10th October) after his plight was brought to the notice of the troops by social service activists in the area.

The Buddhist Association responded positively and 621 Brigade troops using their technical and engineering know-how offered their labour free of charge for the construction. A brief ceremony attended by representatives of the Association, 62 Division’s General Officer Commanding, 621 Brigade Commander, Commanding Officer, 14 (v) SLLI and several well-wishers were present.
